Switching to a reusable water bottle is the best first step on your sustainable journey. Microplastics leak into your water when you drink out of plastic water bottles. And microplastics have now been linked to cancer, among other diseases. Not to mention, the massive waste when you go through disposable water bottles - plastic or otherwise. A chic, practical, reusable water bottle will motivate you to switch over from the dark side once and for all. I’ve even got kids recs here. These are all bottles I own and can personally attest to firsthand. Read on to see what reusable will work best for you and how to get started.

One of my family’s favorites to take with us. I even wrote about it in one of my very first posts on this blog where I go into more detail about how to get started switching to a reusable water bottle - Read it here. We have two. At 28 ounces, it holds pretty much all the water you’ll need for a typical outing and then some. It’s dishwasher safe, stainless steel, and sweat-proof (so it won’t leave a little damp puddle in your bag). The mouth is big enough to put in ice cubes. It’s also extremely durable - mine has withstood quite a few beatings. You can personalize it with your name, initials, etc. - if that’s your thing. Available on Amazon for $34.95. Highly recommend.

Glass can be a little risky because it’s breakable. But it has a lot of perks - it has a very clean, pure taste, and is the easiest to clean (dishwasher safe). I love Soul glass water bottles because of the easy swing top and the cool designs. I personally own this one with the motivational quotes and bring it to the gym everyday. I’m a huge fan. Click the link to see all the different designs. Prices start around $25 for the 1L. Perk: it’s made out of recycled glass.

Get ready for the comments, galore. This puppy holds a half gallon of water - one of the biggest on the market. And the best. They just came out with their stainless steel collection - my personal favorite material for a reusable water bottle (more durable than glass and better than plastic for obvious reasons). This big boy will help you remember to get your full daily amount of water. It comes with a straw so you can easily sip and it’s oddly satisfying to sip out of for some reason. You can remove the straw if you prefer. Only downside, the price. It costs a whopping $70. But remember, you’ll be saving money in the long run by not buying so many disposable water bottles.

For a mere $30, you can own one of the chicest water bottles. I love this one so much and feel like it’s so chic to bring with me to a meeting or fancy event, when I otherwise might be a bit hesitant to bring a reusable water bottle (but those are usually the places where you’re offered plastic water bottles). Only downside - it does sweat. And the screw-on lid takes about 10 twists to get on/off. But otherwise, a very chic and affordable option that holds a decent amount of liquid without taking up too much space. The hook at the top is a nice perk too.

My absolute favorite kids water bottle. (Totally works for adults too btw.) It’s really big so should last your child most of the day in or out of school. I recommend getting a silicone protective “boot” that goes over the bottom so it doesn’t get dinged up. Buy one here in a plethora of colors for $6. The Pura Sport goes for about $45 - well worth the upgrade IMO for peace of mind knowing your child won’t be ingesting toxic microplastics everyday out of those popular plastic kids water bottles.

More affordable at under $18, the CamelBak is a kids favorite. I’m sure you’ve seen this reusable water bottle around - most likely in the plastic version. Opt for the stainless steel for a safer version that still comes in a bunch of cute designs. Only downside is it’s size - it’s relatively small at just 14 ounces and will surely need to be refilled quite a few times throughout the day. Available on Amazon.

Last but not least, the water filter! This is the final step in graduating to a sustainable water drinker. There’s a bunch of different brands and sizes on the market, but this big Brita will fit snugly in a corner of your fridge (or countertop if you prefer room-temp water) and take care of all your refill needs for the day. Heavy water drinkers or bigger households may need to refill it once throughout the day. This baddie holds 18 cups of water - enough to fill six 24-ounce reusable water bottles. And the filter lasts six months - that means you only have to change it 2x a year! Available on Amazon for $41.86. Now, what are you waiting for?!
